Shri. M Z Siddique, a Mechanical Engineer from Annamalai University, joined GTRE, Bengaluru as Scientist ‘B’ in 1988 after completion of one year fellowship programme on “Gas Turbine Technology” from Institute of Armament Technology (IAT), Pune in 1988. Subsequently he has undergone one year ‘on the job training’ program at M/s General Electric, USA during 1992-1993 on aero gas turbine engines.

Shri. MZ Siddique was associated with the design and testing of axial flow compressor systems. In the year December 2007, he was appointed as Project Director (Kaveri). The successful completion of Altitude testing at Central Institute of Aviation Motors (CIAM), Russia and Flying Test Bed (FTB) trials of Kaveri engine in IL-76 aircraft at Gromov Flight Research Institute (GFRI), Russia was conducted under his leadership. For this achievement, he was awarded “DRDO Agni award for excellence in self-reliance – Team leader” in the year 2010. In September 2014, he was promoted to the grade of Scientist ‘H’ / Outstanding Scientist.

Shri MZ Siddique has been appointed and assumed charges as Director, GTRE from 11th August 2015.

Dr. Om Sharma is currently a Senior Research Fellow at the United Technologies Research Center (UTRC) since 2007. He, along with four other Senior Research Fellows, provides guidance and resources to enable the development of new concepts and technical capabilities through the use of Innovation Pipeline and Capability development processes. He also provides leadership in solving tough technical problems encountered during product development process and provides critical assessment to senior management on technical issues and assisting in the assessment and support for technical excellence.

During 1998-2000 Om directed a modeling, analysis, simulation and computation (MASC) initiative to support product development across the UTC divisions.

Om has worked for United Technologies since 1977, when he joined the Pratt & Whitney Turbo-Machinery Technology Group. Included among his technological accomplishments is the development of advanced design concepts and design processes in the turbine aerodynamics and heat transfer disciplines; developing 3-D design concepts for turbines and compressors by utilizing multistage computational fluid dynamics codes; and leading team development on active stall control technology demonstrated in a high bypass ratio large commercial jet engine. At Pratt & Whitney, he served as Chief Technologist, supporting the development of the F119, F135, PW4000, V2500 and GP7000 engines, establishing a Center of Excellence in Aerodynamics and directing the Pratt & Whitney Technical Fellows Program.

Om received a Bachelor of Technology degree and a Master of Science degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, India, and a doctorate from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom. He is a Fellow with American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and a recipient of Distinguished Alumni Award from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.

Srikanth Bontha is currently an assistant professor in the Mechanical Engineering department at National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK). Before Joining NITK in June 2013, he worked as an assistant professor at Indian Institute of Technology Patna (2011 – 2013) and also at Temple University, Philadelphia, USA (2009-2011). Before beginning his academic career, he spent more than three years in Industry at Kennametal Inc, Pittsburgh, USA, where he led product development projects as well as conducted research in the area of metal cutting. Dr. Bontha’s research interests include Mechanics and Materials issues in Additive Manufacturing and Machinability of Titanium Alloys. For his experience and research contributions, Dr. Bontha was invited to serve on the International Scientific Committee of the Eleventh International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP) Conference on Modeling of Machining Operations. He is a recipient of the 2010 Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer award from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME). He is also a recipient of the 2009 Young Leader Professional Development Award from The Minerals, Metals and Materials Society (TMS) and the 2009 American Society for Metals (ASM) /Indian Institute of Metals (IIM) Visiting Lecturer. He was selected to represent TMS in the Emerging Leaders Alliance (ELA) Capstone Training Program at Denver, Colorado in November 2010. He holds three patents and has published several articles in top-ranking journals and international conference proceedings.

Dr. Bontha received Ph.D. in Engineering and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering degrees from Wright State University, Ohio and an undergraduate degree in Metallurgical Engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad, India.

Dheepa Srinivasan

Principal Engineer at GE, Power, GE India Industrial Pvt Dr. Dheepa Srinivasan is a Principal Engineer at GE, Power, GE India Industrial Pvt. Ltds. Bangalore. She has been with GE for over 17 years, as a lead scientist at the Global Research Centre, Technical leader for Materials and Process Engineering and Global Quality lean leader, GE Oil & Gas. She has a PhD, in Metallurgical Engineering, from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. She is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt, in engineering quality management.

Her core areas of expertise include development of high temperature structural materials and advanced coatings for gas turbine applications. She leads the repair development efforts for gas turbines, with emphasis on Additive Manufacturing, Cold Spray Coatings and Advanced Materials Characterization, as well as Component Lifing. In particular, she has pioneered the development of Additive Manufacturing in various Gas turbine Repair Applications, as a first of its kind product, that is qualified for production.

Kurichi Kumar is the Head of Engineering for Rolls-Royce India since March 2015. In this role, he is responsible for setting up the company’s Engineering Centre in Bangalore, India and responsible for the Engineering activities in Aerospace as well as Marine. Prior to this role, he was the Director of Research & Technology – Asia for Rolls-Royce since Jan 2008. In this role, he was responsible for Research & Technology programs and collaboration activities with various research partners in the Asia Pacific region. In addition, he also established the company’s Advanced Technology Center in Singapore and managed its operations. Prior to joining Rolls-Royce, Kurichi held a regional role with General Motors Asia Pacific where he was responsible for strategy and implementation of Global Engineering IT systems and tools for High Performance Computing, Simulation and Testing across the Engineering Centres in Asia. Previous to that, he was the Deputy Executive Director of the Institute of High Performance Computing, one of the Research Institutes under the Agency for Science Technology and Research in Singapore. Before coming to Singapore in 1996, he was with Cray Research in the USA as a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Specialist working with the automotive companies in the use of supercomputers for large scale complex CFD simulations.

Kurichi received his Masters and Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Windsor, Canada. He graduated with a B.E. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Madras, India in 1980.

Vinay Jammu

Vinay Jammu is Technology Leader, Physical-Digital Analytics in Digital Research Organization in GE Global Research. He is responsible for labs located in Bangalore and Schenectady, NY, that are focused on driving domain-based analytics to differentiate GE’s Industrial Internet Solutions. In addition, Vinay serves as focal point for 400-member analytics teams across GE India Technology Centers in Pune, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bangalore.

Vinay obtained his doctoral degree from University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1996 in Mechanical Engineering with specialization in applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for machine health prediction. After a brief stint at Mechanical Technology Inc. NY, he joined GE Global Research, Schenectady, NY in 1997 as Diagnostics Engineer where he focused on developing predictive analytics for failure and life prediction of industrial assets. Vinay relocated to Bangalore in 2002 and held multiple roles as Lab Manager and Technology Leader in Aero-Thermal and Mechanical Systems organization in GE Global Research. Vinay is a certified master black belt, has 38 patents, and 60+ internal and external publications.

Mohan Srinivasa

A Chemical engineer by profession, Dr. Mohan Srinivasa has a Ph.D. in the Mathematical and numerical modeling of flow of granular materials from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. Since 2000, he have been associated with ANSYS, Inc. in various roles developing modeling technologies and numerical solutions for the engineering needs of customers. In his current role as a Principal Technology Specialist, he looks at how digitization and IoT technologies affect customers engineering workflows. He is also interested in applying machine learning algorithms for improving the efficacy of numerical modeling. He is an expert in the modeling of multiphase flows and has a broad experience across various industries, in particular, the process and oil and gas industries.

Leny Thangiah

Leny Thangiah heads the Data Engineering & Analytics Research team as part of Siemens Corporate Research in Digitalization and Automation, Bangalore. As part of the global Data Analytics and AI group of Siemens Corporate Technology, his team of about 15 researchers work in the areas of Big Data platforms, edge intelligence and deep learning based algorithms for visual analytics for use cases related to Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and Healthcare.

Leny is a Siemens certified senior software architect. His previous roles in Siemens include Lead Architect for large-scale software platforms. Leny has about 2 decades of experience in engineering software-centric systems that are mission critical and highly scalable. Prior to joining Siemens in 2007, he has worked in organizations like Honeywell, Rockwell and Samsung.

Frank Haselbach

As the Global Head of System Design, Frank looks after the system design function within the Rolls-Royce group across all business sectors. Based in Derby, UK, and positioned in the civil aerospace business sector he leads the whole engine architecture, functional and mechanical design of all civil aerospace products and acts as the Chief Aerodynamicist of the group. In this role, he also looks after the Rolls-Royce engineering team in India. Prior to this, he was Executive Vice President for the Combustion & Casings Supply Chain Unit within Rolls-Royce and also held the position of Engineering Executive for the same business before that. He has served as a senior engineer in the company since 18 years in various roles in Germany and the United Kingdom. He has operated businesses and worked with customers, teams and suppliers in Europe, Asia and America. Frank started his industry career as a Turbine Aerodynamicist at Rolls-Royce Deutschland. He was a visiting professor for compressible flows at TU Berlin for seven years. As an elected Rolls-Royce Engineering Fellow and visiting Professor for the University of Oxford he also holds a doctorate in mechanical engineering. He is Member of the DGLR and Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society.

Alok Nanda

Alok Nanda is the Chief Operating Officer at GE India Technology Centre, and General Manager for Engineering in India for GE Aviation. As COO, Alok is responsible to drive a region wide technology strategy in partnership with GE’s regional and global business leaders, product leaders and CTOs. His strategic efforts to tie GE ITC’s innovation efforts to GE India’s regional priorities drive a powerful combination of technical expertise and strategic business outcomes. As GM India Engineering - GE Aviation, Alok leads a team of talented engineers who provide engineering design, analysis and software solutions for jet engines, components and integrated systems for commercial & military aircraft, in collaboration with the global GE Aviation engineering team. Alok has been with GE for 16 years and has held engineering and technical leadership positions across Aviation, Power and Global Research. He moved to his General Manager for Engineering in India for GE Aviation role in June 2012 and assumed the COO role for GEITC in March 2017. Prior to joining, GE, Alok spent 8 years in the area of structural design & analysis at the Indian Defense Research & Development Organization. Alok received his Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai. Alok is married to Manju and they have a son Nikhil. He enjoys to read, travel and spend time with his family.

B. N. Raghunandan

Dr. B. N. Raghunandan

Prof Raghunandan obtained his B.Tech. (Aeronautical Engineering) from IIT Bombay in 1971 and Ph.D. from IISc, Bangalore in 1976. He served on the faculty in the Department of Aerospace Engineering, Indian Institute of Science for 38 years before superannuating in 2014. During his tenure at IISc, he held many senior positions such as Chairman, Aerospace Engineering; Divisional Chairman, Earth and Environmental Sciences; and Dean, Faculty of Engineering. He is currently engaged as an Advisor to the Director, IISc and is Chairman of the Committee entrusted with the Development of the new campus at Challakere, Chitradurga District.

As a specialist in the field of Aerospace Propulsion and Combustion, Prof Raghunandan has graduated a large number of Masters and Ph D students and has more than 250 publications to his credit. He was a Visiting Scientist at University of Leeds and Imperial College, London. Later he had long stints at Hosei University, Tokyo first as International Scholar and later as Visiting Professor. He held Prof Satish Dhawan Chair at IISc and is a recipient of Alumni Award of Excellence in Research. He was instrumental in establishing National Centre for Combustion R&D and the Pratt & Whitney Research Cell at IISc.

Professor Raghunandan is a Fellow of National Academy of Engineering and the Aeronautical Society of India. He is recently called upon to head the Centre of Propulsion Technology and concurrently to be a Distinguished Visiting Professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering IIT Bombay.

Mukul Saxena

Mukul Saxena heads Siemens Corporate Technology, Research – India, leading a team of 100+ researchers with R&D portfolio cutting across diverse technologies relevant for Siemens core strategy of Electrification, Digitalization and Automation – technology development for new generation power generation and energy management systems, electronics systems for sensor integration with field devices, edge and near-field computing, mobile and cloud technologies, machine and artificial intelligence for data mining and analytics, and big data technologies.

Prior to joining Siemens, Mukul was working with GE Global Research from 1989-97 and 2000-04. His last assignment with GE was as the Global Technology Leader for Advanced Mechanical Technologies based at the John F. Welch Technology Center, Bangalore, India. From 1997 to 2000, Mukul was working with Eicher Goodearth Limited in New Delhi

Mukul graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur with a B. Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering. He then received his MS and PhD degrees from the University of Rochester, New York. He has contributed to over 30 technical publications in the area of Computational Mechanics and is co-editor of the book “Geometry and Optimization Techniques for Structural Design” published jointly by Computational Mechanics Publications (UK) and Elsevier (USA).

Mukul is currently serving on the Senate for IIIT Bangalore and is also a Member of the Advisory Council for PESIT. He was also nominated by the Ministry of Human Resources and Development to serve on the Board of Governors for Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India for 2004-2005 term.

M. S. Anand

Invited Speaker: Combustion Simulation Challenges and the Digital Future

Dr. M. S. Anand, Rolls-Royce Engineering Associate Fellow

Dr. Anand has more than 39 years of experience in the modeling and simulation of turbulent reacting flows, and has been with Rolls-Royce for about 32 years. He leads the group that is responsible for the development of advanced computational fluid dynamics (CFD) based design system for all components including combustors, turbomachinery, inlets and nozzles etc. He is also the global lead for combustion CFD methods for the global corporation. His group also provides advanced analytical design support for all component development and in-service programs. The group has developed industry-leading design tools under his leadership, particularly combustor tools which is his primary area of expertise. He also has joint worldwide corporate responsibility for providing strategic and technical direction for advanced methods R&D and design system development.

Dr. Anand has a strong background and record of advanced methods and model development as well as of experimental investigations. He has over 35 publications in reputed journals and conferences. He has won several Rolls-Royce R&D awards, and the Combustion Institute Student Award. He has the honor of being appointed a Rolls-Royce Engineering Associate Fellow as well as Associate Fellow of AIAA in recognition of his technical contributions and international standing. He received his B. Tech from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India, and his M. S. and Ph. D. from Cornell University in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.
